One of the most complex and exciting tasks in a cowboy’s life is handling the ranch rope to catch cattle. The prototype is the real ranch work, as practiced for generations in the western US and Canada. One quickly realizes that this approach is not easy to learn. On the way to perfection it takes many years to develop to a good roper, a good horseman, a good cattleman, a good student, and perhaps it will be the way to be a better person.
In competitions horsemanship and stockmanship – the gentle and fair handling of horse and cattle – is number one priority. While performing the single shots it’s not speed but quality and style that matters. During the competitions western equipment is obligatory as the saddle horn is needed for the work with rope and cattle. For clinics and lessons horses and riders of all disciplines are welcome to profit and improve their relationship through ranch roping.
